«Exhibition about the local bent furniture factory D.G.Fischel. Author: Česká Lípa State District Archives. The first part of the exhibition will present the history of the bent furniture factory in Mimoň, which no longer exists. In the second part, bent furniture loaned by Mr. Tomáš Brejník will be exhibited. The opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 3 p.m.
About the bent furniture on display:
The exhibition directly follows the exhibition «Bent furniture, a phenomenon of Austria-Hungary» from 2018, where, among other things, bent furniture from the collection of the Litoměřice collector Tomáš Brejník was presented. Here we would like to introduce bent furniture from the aforementioned collection that has not been exhibited before.
The collection represents the oldest industrially produced furniture made of bent wood, mostly from the Gebrüder Thonet company. However, models from the beginning of the twentieth century are also on display. Due to the size of the exhibition space, it is not possible to present a complete range of bentwood products. In the future, you can look forward to a possible exhibition showing, for example, a whole range of tables and side tables, or even cabinet furniture.
Most of the furniture pieces on display have been produced for decades, but their form and construction have varied slightly over the years. The presented collection contains forms that are as old as possible, from the beginning of production of a given specific model. These are characterized by extraordinary subtlety and elegance, which gradually disappeared due to the rationalization of industrial production.»
